The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman anchors the north end of Seven Mile Beach and remains the island's flagship, with a Greg Norman golf course and the Eric Ripert–consulted Blue by Eric Ripert on-site. Mid-strip, the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa is the newer, design-forward pick — bright, art-filled, and consistently one of the best-reviewed properties in the Caribbean. The Westin Grand Cayman and Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort cover dependable big-brand beachfront closer to George Town. For something smaller and design-led, Palm Heights is a boutique, mid-century-styled property that trades scale for personality. Don't skip Stingray City — a genuine sandbar in the North Sound where waist-deep water is full of wild southern stingrays you can feed and hold; every operator on the island runs the same trip, so book through your resort's concierge for a smaller boat.
High-End Dining
Blue by Eric Ripert at the Ritz-Carlton is the island's white-tablecloth destination, seafood-forward and formal. Camana Bay — a planned waterfront town between Seven Mile Beach and George Town — is the real dining district: Agua for Italian-leaning seafood, Guy Harvey's for a more casual waterside dinner, and a genuinely good Friday-night farmers market. Calypso Grill, on the way to Rum Point, does fresh catch on a deck over the water. Every January, the Ritz-Carlton hosts the Cayman Cookout, a food-and-wine festival built around Ripert and a rotating guest-chef lineup — worth timing a trip around if you can get a table.
Little-Known Gems
- Little Cayman, a short inter-island flight away, has some of the best wall diving in the Caribbean at Bloody Bay Wall — a different trip entirely from Grand Cayman's resort scene.
- Rum Point, on the quieter North Sound side, has calmer water and a lower-key beach-bar vibe than Seven Mile.
- Mastic Trail — a two-mile hike through old-growth dry forest, a genuine surprise on an island known for its beaches.
- Books & Books in Camana Bay for a slow coffee morning away from the resort.
- Bioluminescent bay tours at night, best on a new-moon week.
Family Notes
Grand Cayman is one of the easiest, lowest-friction family islands in the region: English-speaking, the US dollar is widely accepted, the water off Seven Mile Beach is calm and shallow, and Stingray City is a genuinely memorable kid activity rather than a forced one. The Ritz-Carlton runs a real Ritz Kids program, and the Marriott's beachfront layout suits younger children who need to be close to the room. It isn't the budget play — Cayman is consistently one of the more expensive islands in the region — but it's the trip to book when you want zero surprises.
